Go DVD if you have the Drive for it if not CDs work fine. Flash Drives are nice but the memory is volatile and very sensative, more suited for transferring apps and docs over a short period of time, whereas CD/DVDs are "Hard" Copied.
Just be careful not to scratch them.

For long term storage, use a CD or DVD. But keep in mind that depending on the research you read, the lifetime for consumer burnable optical storage can be as long as 100 years or as short as 3 to 5 years. In my opinion, if you store them properly you will probably get 10 years or so before you would need to reburn them onto whatever new storage media is popular then. But I would periodically check them. Store them upright in jewel cases in a dark dry area that should be temperature controlled at around 70 degrees F.

It depends on how many pictures you're trying to store. You can get a flash drive up to around 4GB. Best buy had them on sale for 69.99 (i work there).

I'd recommend dvd-rw's if you take new pictures and would like to keep an updated copy. You can just go back and add pictures to it. That way each dvd has 4.7 GB of storage.

Another option is an external hard drive. You can get 160GB for 99.99.

Do you want to store or archive? For archiving i would use CD or DVD. For transport i would use a flash drive, because you can delete it if you want
