Okay, I'm starting to get spring fever and want to start planting some bulbs and seeds TODAY!!! However, usually I believe, you don't start planting until March and April. So could i start planting today since it is so close to March?
Also, I don't really want to buy a tiller at the moment, so i was thinking about getting one of those Garden Claws. If you have this thing, could you tell me if it works well. If not, have any good tips on how to break up soil that hasn't ever been broken up or hasn't been broken up recently? Thanks

find your hardiness zone number i'm zone 5(ohio) annuals in my zone can't be planted outside until the last frost, which in ohio is around the last week of may. I plan on starting my seeds and bulbs a few weeks in my house under my grow lights, which will give them a head start. as far as the garden claw goes i bought one myself last year and it works great! however its physical work more so than a rototiller. To break up bad soil add plently of organic matter and in a few years u will have great soil.

Depending on your location in NC, you're in zone 8 or 9. Bulbs and seeds should be ok to plant now. Most vegies can be put in, I just started lettuce and spinach. The garden claws are labor intensive, especially the hand held ones. I have a Mantis for tilling and love it. If you have precious/tender plants you might want to wait a couple of weeks. Happy gardening from SC.
