First off, make sure that the seam of the sleeve is on the corner of your shoulder, if it goes past your shoulder then the shirt is too big. Then there is the question on the length of the shirt. Just make sure that it's a little longer then your hips if you are male because it will look too small if it's any shorter then that.

1) Go to store.
2) Pick out shirt.
3) Get your size.
4) Pay for shirt.
5) Take it home.
6) Put it on.

Simple enough?

It's really simple and may sound stupid but um how about going in to a fitting room and trying it on. You will not be the same size in any brand, they are all different. But watch out for cottons, you might want to go up one size, they WILL SHRINK.

Measure your neck with a tape measure in inches if you are in the UK then you ask for a shirt with your necksize- x inches that you measured.
