Does it save money if you put it on stand by?
Is it harmful to turn your computer on and off multiple times during the day, not to mention inconvenient?

I think you have been misinformed, I pay a monthly fee, in the USA. computers have come a long way, shutting your computer on and off once a day is sufficient.

No because it still uses the same amount of electric on standby, the only difference is that the monitor is usually off when in standby mode.
