This happened to my son about 1-1/2 years ago when he turned 6. They tested at school and we received a note at home, just as you did. I cried when I saw our letter. We took him to an Opthalmologist which had a doctor who works with only children. He needed glasses, but we got the prescription from them and purchased the glasses at Lenscrafters because they are less expensive. We learned that young children often have problems like this but they live with them because they don't have anything to compare it to. Your daughter probably thinks that everyone sees the way she does - she doesn't know any different. My son spend the first few days of having his glasses playing with them a lot. After that, he realized that he likes being able to see much clearer and he wears them from the minute he gets up until he lays down to go to sleep. So, find a local opthalmologist and find out if they have a person who specializes in children. This will be the best thing you can do for her. Good luck!

That is one reason the schools do periodic eye tests. Lenscrafters and opticians only test the eyes for refraction, to fit for eyeglasses. Opthamalogists are doctors for diseases and problems of the eyes, you need to find out why one eye is so different from the other. Hopefully, whatever it is has been caught in time to do something about it.

A pediatric ophthalmologist is who your daughter should see. They will be able to properly diagnose the problem and give you the correct method of restoring vision to the best possible.

You, did the right thing. Please, be sensitive to her because she is going through a lot right now, and be honest. When she gets a pair of glasses, she could wear them, and if she asks why, tell her why. I went through the same thing, when i was about her age, and believe me it was not pretty.
