Shspr,

Peter O'Toole should have won several Oscars, but sadly, the Academy Awards never liked him, I guess on "Lawrence of Arabia," and others. They finally gave him a special Oscar and he did not want it, he wanted an Oscar in any film.

Same thing about Richard Burton.

Whitaker is really a new actor, just been in business for a few years. Yet, I have seen his films and he is always good. I did not see "Venus" or the "Idi Amin," so I don't know, but they are both good actors.

That is the problem about Oscars, the worst actors get an Oscar and the best ones lose.

Helen Mirren won Best Actress for "The Queen." THIS one, the Academy got right.

Forest Whitaker won Best Actor for his portrayal of Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland." With all due respect to Mr. Whitaker, whom I regard as a very fine actor...this was not a good decision. Peter O' Toole's performance in "Venus" was the towering achievement by any actor -- male or female -- last year. It's absolutely a crime that this guy will probably go to his grave without an Oscar to his name.
