I was 7 months pregnant and needed to fly for a family emergency...my doctor said it was fine but to get up and walk periodically during the flight and put my feet up when I got off the plane...I am thinking it is more to keep you close to home and your doctor in the case you go into labor early or have complications develop. I also had to go in for a check up after I got home.
I was fine by the way...and even had to sleep over night on the airport floor after flight was delayed for a snow storm.

Really your sister needs to check with her doctor before going on any trip. Especially one that requires flying. However, it typically isn't a good idea in the 8th month because of the cabin pressure that may induce labor. I talked with my doctor about traveling and she says that it's OK throught your second trimester. However, I STRESS that she speak with her doctor first.

because of blood clots. women have a lot of pressure in their veins. some experience so much pressure the vein walls lose shape and become varicose. so the body is naturally weaker. if you are in a pressure chamber like a plane, the veins can break down easily and the stress and pressure of the body in flight can cause a clot. not to mention it can also trigger labor.
angelina jolie flew a lot while pregnant. did you see how big her veins got in her arm? they were already quite large, but now they look like garden hoses. i am not an expert, but i suspect they became enlarged not just because of nutrional needs of baby, but because of pressure in the plane. take care.

No she isn't supposed to fly once in the 3rd Trimester or nearing her due date. with her being 8 months preggo that is REALLY close to her due date! Most airlines will only let preggo women in the late 3rd trimester if you have a written note from the OB!

this is just a guess, but stress and pressure changes might not be good for a pregnant woman, but consider this, once your 8 months it really could go at any time, do you want to be stranded in a hospital 1000 miles from home?

At 8 months, your sister could easily go into labor at almost any time. Babies come when they want to come. I'm sure your sister wouldn't want to be in a strange city (or in mid-air) when those labor pains strike.

No correlation between adverse birth and the mother flying.

actually they can. But once it gets close to their due date they can not fly because they would be worried if they had the baby on the plane and if something goes wrong. so they prefer them to stay close to home

it's due to your sisters condition that she's almost full term that she might have an emergency labor anytime. happened to my sister-in-law. she was 8 months pregnant and wants to enter U.S. but was denied entry due to her condition.

It's that the cabin pressure could trigger labor.
