Just watched Man in the Iron Mask and WOW what a climax - it turns out that twins Louise and Phillippe are not the sons of their own Father but the Queen's L'amour who doubles as a Musketeer in spare time. Does that happen in France all the time?

The word "mistress" is of French origin.

I don't remember too many titles (a dumb Yank!) but I saw/read plenty of French stories and somehow didn't felt right with the loose depiction of morals. Why is it that every married woman deserves to be seduced, and why is it that you can't spin a story without this kinda twist in the end.

I frequently use the phrase, "French twist"

That's right that French stories revolve around adultery, betrayal and "loose morals". I have watched "Man in the Iron Mask" too. And as I am French, and as I have studied French History, I can tell you that this have really happened.
In French films, it happens most of time... as if it was necessary to talk about adultery, betrayal or loose morals to make a good film. I don't know if that happens all the time in real life in France but I am shocked to see that you talk about "loose morals" indeed ! What are you, a Puritan?
I must say that I don't always understand but we are not different from the rest of you maybe a bit more subtle and romantic than British or American.
This lack of morals is however very common even in the USA.

As British or American art often revolve about family, friends, religion and murders, French art often contains elements like adultery or betrayal because artists are seeking to subvert the bourgeois status quo and liberate humanity from unnecessary constraints.

Your not a Dumb Yank don't ever let anyone call you that....Answer to your question. French literature is a dedious cycle of Debauchery, Adultery and all things normal. All imagination and foreplay to get you in the mood for love my friend.

Does it happen in France all the time....not in this century would you find the man in the Iron Mask, but yes to the rest. The French are no different to the rest of us they are just a bit more subtle and romantic than us Brits and you Dumb Yanks. Lol.

The French stories are like that because the French are like that!
They make excuses about Paris being a romantic city and then use it as an excuse to practice their fancy elaborations (that is what Henry VIII called blow jobs which apparently originated in France). Basically the French are randy buggers!

Honey, it happens in any country all the time. Unfortunately, adultery, betrayal, and loose morals are all too common in any society. It's a sad world we live in.

French accept this type of behavior as normal. Perhaps it is normal, and by accepting it, it becomes less of a big deal. I do not agree with this lack of morals; however, it is very common even in the USA. That does not make it right.
