Find the source of the overheating. From cold start up take radiator cap off and check for bubbles. If there are bubbles, you have a head gasket leaking into the coolant passages. After a cold start it should be no more than 10-15 minutes and the top radiator hose should get warm/hot. This tells you the thermostat is working.Good luck to you both! ;-)=

The original problem was the car overheating, that should be fixed, but you don't give much info on that. The next problem is your husband who should have shut the car off about 10 minutes BEFORE water started pouring out of the radiator cap. The third problem is that you are talking 'water' when you should be using 'antifreeze" Antifreeze will prevent your engine from being destroyed by freezing in winter and will help it run cooler too. Other than that, you are lucky that nobody was hurt and that your car seems OK.

your husband could have blown the head gasket, thats what happens when you drive a car while its overheating, you think he was pissed then, wait until the car has to be towed to a real mechanic be they male or female, if your car overheats don't keep driving it hoping the wind will cool it down, that is a narrowminded way to think..
