Ah, an interesting question.... One might suggest that they are one and the same. But later you will see that there are two characters. The White Rabbit is the rabbit which Alice follows and the March Hare is the one she finds at the teaparty.
Further proof of this, though dubious at best, is that the two characters have different voices in the Disney version of "Alice in Wonderland'. Jerry Colona was the voice of the March Hare and Bill Thompson was the voice of the white Rabbit.

they are two totally different characters in the Alice in Wonderland story. The white rabbit is the one with the watch, who fears he is "late a very important date." He is character that makes the story happen in that Alice follows him into adventure. The March hare is a droll character at the Mad hater's tea party.

Don't have an answer for you but am intrigued. I watched Alice in Wonderland the other night for the first time since I was a little little wee one. I didn't remember a thing of it but now when I watch it I realize, wow... Lewis Carrol was on a good one.

a hare has a longer body and longer ears than a rabbit and they run not hop, they do not live in warrens iunder the ground but in furrows in fields you can see them running around madly this time of the year ,if you are lucky.but are much rarer than rabbits ,they are brown in colour
