I'm looking for a cool place to visit in either North or South Carolina for a 3-4 day vacation. I'm pregnant so I can't do any kind of real fun activities so I'm looking for a place with great sight-seeing, tours, or nature parks. Any ideas?

I live near Charleston, SC and it's a WONDERFUL place to vacation. There are beaches nearby, beautiful historic homes, interesting shops, and great restaurants. Everything is very convenient, too. Here's a link for you

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is a great place to visit. There are plenty of museums, beaches, great food, and tons of shopping. Most of the villas and houses are rented by the week (Saturday-Saturday) so you would have to stay in a hotel but there are plenty right on the beach. I'm not sure what the weather will be when you plan on going--we rent an ocean front villa in the summer.

I'm from Charleston, and I would say it is a great city to sightsee or just go to the beaches. There is plenty to do and lots of good restaurants. If you have kids already, you might check out Charles Town landing, its the site of where our ancestors founded Charles Town in 1670. Its a neat place to visit once or twice and is kind of like Jamestown, on a smaller scale. Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivans Island are all close by and of course you can always just spend time downtown Charleston (shopping on King Street or just walking around the Market).

If you want to relax on the beach, I'd say go to the Outer Banks--Nags Head, Corolla, down that way. There isn't a lot to do but soak up sun and relax though.

If you want more to do (and don't want to spend all your time in a bathing suit), try Charleston. It has history, a waterfront, and is a good sized city with stuff to do.

We stayed in Asheville for a week. Did day trips to the arboretum, grandfather mountain, Biltmore and wherever else took our fancy.
