Here is my background. I was raised Catholic. When I was 19 I was married by a justice of the peace and that marriage lasted about a year and we were divorced. I then converted to Lutheran and became a confirmed member of the LCMS, along with my fiance at that time. We were married in the Lutheran church we were a member of. After 14 years of marriage he decided he wanted out and we were divorced. I am now engaged to a man who was raised in the Lutheran faith, but the ELCA. He was married in the church 12 years ago, but has been divorced about 9 years. We would like to get married in the ELCA church. Neither one of us know if this is allowed in the ELCA and feel foolish asking a pastor we don't know. We are both rather new to the area and haven't found a solid place of worship yet. This isn't something we are planning on doing immediataely as we plan on a year and a half engagement. Any input from someone who knows about this would be helpful. Thanks.

It should not be a problem getting married in an ELCA church. I am sure the Pastor would probably perform the ceremony for you guys.

I have never heard of that being a problem, getting remarried in the Lutheran religion. Pick your church (preferrably the same one both of you want to marry in) and talk to the pastor and get the info on the pre-marriage counseling (most pastors will not marry you without doing the counseling themselves).

Good Luck & Congrats!
