Basicly my daughter hit some buttons (CTRL+ALT+right arrow, it turns out, based on answers info) and rotated my display 90 degrees left. On answers I got a response telling me how to fix it.

My question is, if I'd called Tech Support, how much would the call have cost? So, how much per minute is the call, and how long do you think it'd've taken them to answer?

It depends. The best tech support comes from independant computer shops. Most of those places would have told you how to fix your problem in five seconds without charging you a cent.

A place like Dell would have charged you $30/hour with no promise of resolution. They would have started by asking for all your system specs. Then they would have told you to check your cables and make sure your system is plugged in. Then they would have told you to use the system restore utility. Altogether they would have probably run you through a script that would take at least 35 minutes before actually trying to diagnose your problem. Some companies would even tell you that you needed a new hard drive.

It's actually scary how inept some tech support is. They follow a script given to them without actually listening to what you say. Oh, I forgot to mention, you'd spend alot of time trying to understand the thick Indian accent of the tech support agent. Big companies have moved all their tech support to India.
