My daughter who is 8 years old is always running a temp of 100.3. She don't complain of being ill or anything but we have recently been taking her temp due to the fact that we are keeping and eye on it to see if it ever goes down. Sure enough for about a month now it has not gone down. Does this sound normal or is this something that you think should be checked out?

By the way I did take her to a pediatrician (well nurse practitioner) which we don't care for too much.. She claims its ok .. She says its not really normal but she don't think it's anything to worry about. So to the person that said take her to the dr. duh.. I did and maybe if u don't feel like answering questions then don't answer them!! No reason to be ignorant to people who are just asking advice!!

I know this might sound dumb, but have you tried different thermometers? Some of those just aren't very accurate. Try taking your own temperature to see if it also says that you are running a fever. If it says you're normal, I would make your daughter an appointment with her regular pediatrician. It could be possible that she's got a slight cold, flu, strep throat...the possibilities are endless. Good luck!

It isn't "normal" for her to have higher than 99 degrees, but who knows...it could be normal for her. Usually a fever is the body's reaction to an infection so I suggest taking her to the dr and discuss it. She could have a very mild ear infection which needs to be dealt with or some other mild infection going on. Do you take her temp at the same time every day? A body's temp goes up and down naturally throughout the day so try taking it in the am and pm(am being lower temp and pm being higher). Also, it depends on how accurate the thermometer is and where you're taking the temp(rectally is the most accurate, but that might be hard with an 8 year old!). You may just want to take her in to the Dr. b/c their thermometers are hospital grade and more accurate than ones we buy at the grocery store. Good luck!

Actually a fever is consider 100.7 or higher. How are you checking her temperature? Some methods can be a little higher or lower than normal. Where do you live? Is she active? I know certain factors will play in to how high or low your temperature can be. For instance, myself I am always around 97.3, so when my temp goes up to 99.5 + I really feel hot where some people like your daughter wouldn't even notice. I would consider finding a pediatrician you can trust for your child, her health is very important and if you don't trust the current one, its time to find a new one.

Best of Luck.

That seems a little high for her just to have a "high Thermostat".

personally, and my three girls always run a little over 98.6, but never more than 99.5 or so.

At that temp, there could be an infection brewing of some sort. I would have urine checked. These infections can take a while to start up but once they do, look out.

It never hurts to have a checkup..

This needs to be addressed. Are there other doctors you can take your daughter too? It is possible that she has a low grade infection some where, and you want those treated quickly! Does she complain of any pain? Does she complain of any uncomfortable sensation when peeing? Keep at it, a mother is the best advocate for a child, and she is lucky to have one like you.

I'm the same way....my temp always runs between 99 and 100. It's perfectly okay. And you did take her to her doctor and they said it was okay so I wouldn't worry. It's probably just normal for her.

being it is cold and flu season I would get her checked out..Things like strep throat and such can only have symptoms for a short period but without treated can lead to kidney failure. However.....some peoples core body temperature is higher then the normal 98.6 temperature and maybe she is one of them.

You need to visit a doctor and find out what is going on.
