Read the Gunslinger Series (The Dark Tower). Very well done. My personal favorite is The Stand. I think it is one of the best horror stories ever.

I'm a Stephen King fan as well. My favorite is The Stand, but I loved Misery, too. Though I read it a long time ago, I can clearly remember reacting out loud to some of what was going on, and having family members looking at me strangely. I loved The Talisman, too. Haven't done The Dark Tower series, but lots of people recommend it.
I like Cell, too. It was reminiscent of The Stand, true, but it was a here and now horror story - a plot you could see happening. I think about it when I see people with the cell phones in their ears and I almost wish for a "pulse" when I'm behind someone in the checkout that is busy blabbing to someone else when the checker is trying to work with them. Ur...

it's funny, I read quite some Stephen King, but none of the titles you mentioned.
I abslutly love the man and the way her writes.
he has the ability to capture the reader and to tell a story with sevral planes at once without confusing.
his stories are rich and their plot is fitted together so seemleslly it is almost perfect (Perfection is unachievable)
he writes so much- yet is never repetetive (though I have read a few times - "his fists were cleched so tight they left half moons" :-P or something similiar- but that is much loved)
I espcially love his ability to tell you a story in a different way,
sometimes it would be just like listning to someone telling you something from the past, sometimes it's through journals, sometimes through conversation... a mixture of telling of events- and the characters thoughts
I think he is ingenious. beyond words... which is Ironic since his power is his words :)
I am currently reading Different Seasons- Apt Student. Wow.
:)

I love him, too. My favorites are The Stand and Hearts in Atlantis. His descriptive language is just brilliant.
My 7yo son has been wanting to watch a scary movie so we chose It for him to watch. I was very disappointed because the original made for TV movie was very long..not sure but at least 3 or 4 hours in 2 different episodes I think. The movie we rented was cut down to 1 1/2 hours...not NEARLY enough to get the good stuff in. In fact, the best parts were missing...was very disappointed. . .

I love the man. He's an awesome writer. It's not that his books are scary. You get so enveloped in them that one little creak or noise and you are jumping out of your skin. My favorite books by him are The Shinning and Misery. I am currently reading Insomnia. I've never read it and just discovered that i had it on my bookshelf.

If you haven't read 'IT' you should start right now, I just finished it rereading it last week and I'm truly speechless. Must be one of the best contemporary horror novels, along with Peter Straub's 'Ghost Story'. It's kinda sad that he doesn't write so anymore.
'Dreamcatcher', 'Cell', 'The Dark Tower', they are all good.

He is a great writer. One of the few "mainstream" authors that I really respect as an artist. My personal favorite was "Cell". I think, it was recently released in paper back. I highly recommend it.

Have you read the Dark Tower series? IMO it's the best of what I call his "modern" work.
