The closest male family is out of state and I have looked into scouts, but I went to the meeting, I had the worst feeling about the scout leader like baby raper or something? I have wondered about big brothers and big sisters, has anyone ever tried this, is it safe? They have a father living in the home but he is a worthless a**hole, I notice my sons are really craving male attention, any suggestions?

To be honest, I think your best bet would be a little league coach. I am not sure what your kids are like, nor which, if any, sports they may enjoy playing, but I think that if you found out, or already knew, you should get them involved in some type of sports. Most little league coaches are fathers themselves so they understand a childs perspective, they push the kid to be better than they are, and to be the best they can be, all within a caring environment of friendly and competitive spirit. Coaches are typically a great source of positive reinforcement, and a sport gives them something to dedicate themselves to while not at school.

I know a good friend who father was absent more often than not, and he did do Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and he really did seem to enjoy it. Only thing i have with that, is that if you take them out of the program, they may feel like you are taking their Male figure away and feel abandoned. I think it would be a safe choice, just make sure to stick with it, and see how they feel about the whole thing. Good Luck!

A.) Why are you living with a worthless asshole?

B.) Sometimes you can't pick a role model for your kids, so the best thing you can do is try to be one. Conduct yourself in a way that they will learn to respect you as a woman and they will grow into good men. Maybe through the years there will be a teacher or a friend's father that they can relate to on a man-to-man level, but who they decide to look up to is ultimately out of your control. Just be the best mother you can be and things will be alright. My mother in law did an excellent job of raising my husband to be a good man- and she did it alone. It's not impossible. Good luck.

Look into the CASA program in your area. Some programs have mentor programs that are really good. Also look into volunteers of america and big brothers. It would also be good to just have a friend that is close to you to befriend your boys. Good luck
