The main coin was the "Para". Actually the akçe (a silver coin) was the chief monetary unit in the early Ottoman Empire. Three akçes was equal to one para. One-hundred and twenty akçes equaled one kuruş(or Gurush).
Later the kuruş became the main unit of account, replacing the akçe. And the kuruş(or Gurush) is actually the most famous. In 1843, the silver kuruş was joined by the gold lira in a bimetallic system.
Almost every coin of the world was also used in the ottoman empire. Mainly because the Ottoman coins were usually forged or undervalued.
If you lived then you would be able to use , British,French, Austrian, Spanish, and even old Greek-Byzantine coins in your daily life since they were considered more reliable and stable.
