Yes, luckily I haven't been too embarassed that is; the other person thinking I'm making fun of them. It's something I've always done, I can hardly watch BBC chanel on TV; I'll come away with an accent.

Very much so! I'm a transplanted yankee, and I now live down south. I catch my southern accent coming out thickly when I'm around a bunch of these redneck southerners. But I also have a thick northern accent when I am around my sister or parents, since they still have their yankee accents. I may have picked up a somewhat southern accent, but I still refuse to say "y'all" or "reckon". "You guys" and "I s'pose" work perfectly for me! lol
The difference in the way words are said, is always an issue. "root" is one word. Down south it's sounds like ooooo, whereas up north it sounds like a short u. My favorite, since it was the first one that annoyed me, was the word, Foil. (I came down south while our math class was working on the foil method! lol) Here, it sounds like Fold (no D). The word oil therefore becomes ol'. lol

;o)

omg...yes, it is the funniest thing. I spent a week with some ladies from down south..and by the end of the week I could not stop saying 'Y'all'.....and I am a yankee...lol.

Also when hanging out with some Italian relatives...'three' suddenly becomes 'tree' as in in one, two, tree! I also find that I have mysteriously added some extra vowels to words by the end of the day...

My sister tells me that when I am not around my husband I talk normal. My husband and I live in the south. My sister is from the north.I guess I just never realized it.

Yeah, I used to hang out with this chick who said "you guys" constantly and in the whiney voice. Then I caught myself doing it.

No but I pick up words from others. Like the word Eh....I have a friend that uses the word all the time but he claims not too. I have picked it from him now...
