Hi there. It is indeed onomatopoeia (which is a word that resembles the sound made, such as hiss and groan) but not for snoring - many people sleeping do indeed make a "zzzzzzzzzzzz" sound on the out breath, it is as simple as that really.

They're the sound of silence....... When no sound is produced around you, ur ears produce a faint buzzing in the backround (probably the onset of tinitus in all of us or soming!)

it's as nowadays everything plural ends in the letter 'z' so it's from he 'SNOREZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!.
