I've just got a couple postal orders and they are already written out to the recipients, but I'm not sure I need to send them now! Can I take them back to the post office with the receipts, and will I get the money back?

Yes. I did this the other day, and the only thing I lost was the fee for them.

Yes you can but you will need the counterfoils too. You will lose the fee you paid and get back just the face value.
