I have a 250gig harddrive, in a dell xps 700. If I download WOW on there it takes up 1500 mb. Will this slow the computer down at all? Its my stepdads computer and i dont want him pissed, so will the computer run the same speed with it on there?

No, it won't slow it down, but I do recommend after the install to defragment the computer. Only do this is if the defragmenting program suggests it. It will organize the files on your hard drive and put the bits and pieces of files closer together so it can open them quicker.

No, putting it on your computer will not slow it down at all.

With a 250 GB hard drive, the cpu will not even notice a 1.5 GB. program unless it's already nearly full. In which case it would already be slow.

The speed of the computer relates to the file size through virtual memory. PCs with Windows take a large block of disk space and basically convert it to additional memory to enhance the speed of the actual memory cards. Most computers (unless desperately in need of an upgrade), are not so full that the virtual memory is affected by the usage of disk space.

The reason why some downloads slow down computers is because some install software that runs at startup and in the background. So even though you may not think you're running any programs at all, they're still active and using computer memory. If you want to check this, press Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click on Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Even when there are no visible programs running in the applications tab, there are always processes running.

World of Warcraft does not normally run any of these hidden programs or install any of this hidden software. The exception is when there is an update/patch, it will run in the background when you log off your character or first open the program.

So again, no, World of Warcraft will not slow it down at all when you're not playing it. When you're playing the game, obviously, that could be another matter since it does require a lot of memory (both cpu and video card) to run smoothly...

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK

Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:
Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.

Then begin by;
delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.

goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions

goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.

Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.

Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.

Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.

Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.

Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:

dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories

Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

It will not slow down the computer, but it will take up 1.5GB of space on your 250GB Hard Drive. Check your video card specs and processor for game play speed.
