ps3 A rip-off in the u.k.?

Question

Sony has announced, that unlike american and japanese versions, ours will not be able to play most ps and ps2 games. I won't buy it now at £425. Why are we always being penalised, first with price now with design???

The only thing i am looking forward to on the Launch date is the amount of consoles being put on ebay and not selling.

I was going to buy a PS3 but after working it out properly and realising that after i have bought the PS3, 1 game and an additional controller, i would be spending £510.00.

I just couldnt justify that cost when walking past an Xbox360 package 2 controllers & 2 games for £289.99.

I will wait until the price is reduced

although right now, they have limited our systems so that it will only play a limited amount of playstation 2 and 1 games, in the future they will put a emulator in an update which will allow u to play all the playstation and playstation 2 games...wwell this is what i heard...and plus...u havent heard of how much the decrease of percentage is compared to the USA models...im not defending the ps3...it is too expensive...for its sole purpose a "gaming" console..but when u think about the blu ray player you are geting with it..it is a pretty fair deal...however...if u are only going for the gaming purposes...then head over to xbox 360...as it is mainly made for gaming purposes...

i am personaly a big fan of the ps3 and its huge amount of power...im also fond of there controller design and the weight of these new controllers...i hav always stuk with sony no matter what...its just my preference...but of course im annoyed how were paying more for a console that is 4 months old in the USA...but..thats always happend...so why complain nw?

yes it is a rip off. what is the point of these high prices when you can buy a descent laptop for the same price and get a pc and games console in one instead. i would rather but a laptop and have it wireless around the house and play games on it any where than have a console thats stuck in one place that just plays games. ps3 games will be about £40/50, and you can buy a descent game for your laptop for half that price too. some companies don't think of these things. divs

It's really a good thing though, the PS3 can't live up to expectations. It's too expensive and you get too little at first for what you pay for. The Wii is a better choice. Much less money to shell out and you get a GOOD game with the system.

Simply put...YES!! as with everything in the uk. 99% of electronic goods are cheaper in the US and Japan than here, but the companies and government give us a raw deal... we're held captive by region coding, incompatibilities, such as tuning frequencies (eg. car radios), reduced features as in the PS3, voltage differences. delayed launch dates etc. And if we do try to buy cheaper from abroad, we get hit with taxes... Sad state of affairs

actually who cares that it plays fewer ps2 games who buys a pl3 to play ps2 games n it plays more ps1 games but fewer ps2 n in a future update it will play 100%of all the ps2 and ps1 games n no the ps3 is not a rip off u r gettin a bargain for wut it comes with blu-ray iz over 1000 n so much more shud i say more

Import taxes and transport cost. To deliver products to the U.ok. on the marketplace interior the U.ok. the taxes are severe and get further to the cost of goods. notably electronics get hit the toughest.

you're not gonna miss much until they come out w/ more 1080 res games so i would wait anyhow.
