Hi,

I did an ovulation test which showed as positive on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of February.

I then did several pregnancy tests on Sunday 18th of February which all show as positive.

The doctor said I am 4/weeks pregnant. However I am confused as surely I am only 3 weeks pregnant as I know the conception date? Please help me as I am confused...thanks.

If you are pregnant, they start the first day after your last period. Even if you had sex and got pregnant 2 weeks after your period they will still add the 2 weeks prior.

The doctors are very hard-headed. I know my conception date also and I have told them this several times but they still tell me every single time that they will go by my first day of my last period and that's the bottom line. I even had an ultrasound done and the tech told me I was 10 weeks along and I know for a fact at that time I was only 9. I know it's only a week difference but it really aggravates me. I would go by your conception date because I think you would know best when it comes to that, at least that's what I'm going by. I would say your three weeks. Congrats to you!

Doc's usually calculate your pregnancy dates based on the start date of your LMP. If you know when you ovulated, add 2 weeks to that to get your pregnancy dates based on ovulation. So, if you oavulated 3 weeks ago, you would be considered 5 weeks pregnant and the gestational age of the baby would be 3 weeks.

COngratulations!!!

Doctors always measure pregnancy by the first day of your last period, not by the conception date. This is because unless a woman is ttc and knows when she was keeping track of her ovulation and intercourse dates, it's very hard to know when conception actually took place. Therefore, it is always measured by the first day of your last period. Hope that helps.

Your doctor is taking into consideration the start of your last period. Since ovulation can be a little vague to pinpoint, most doctors go with the last period as the beginning date of pregnancy. Weird, I know.

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period, not conception. So technically the week you start your period you are 1 week pregnant. When you first miss your next period, you are 4 weeks pregnant.

Doctors will go by the LMP date and then the 1st ultrasound will confirm the date. You can make a calendar on My Yahoo. Good luck.
