what could be the possible reasons for less no. of girls per thousand boys in the world? and how can we as indivisuals work to improve this status?

it has three reasons: a chemical, a social, and a historical
The social, as described above is the lower value people have in recieving a female child in quite some cultures, so active prevention of having girls.
The chemical reason comes from the hormones in birthcontrol pills; the female oestrogene hormone (and some others) that are chemically synthesised for birthcontrol reasons on large scale, then consumed and excreted (peed out) on large scale, have a huge influence on gender of animals in nature: more fish develop into female, or hermaphrodite gender. For human birth, the effect of this is the opposite: the higher concentrations of (human) female hormones around us, make our bodies "think" that there are more women around us, thus are a stimulant, a trigger to produce more boys; it is not very well known how this works but nature tries to make a gender equillibrium in mammal population and we have some sensors for that.
Third, the historical reason is: the boy/girl birth ratio has always been higher in favour of boys. Throughout eras this was needed because they tend to die younger and are exposed to danger more often (hunt/war). Allthough the news might seem to tell you differently, the amount of war and especially the number of men dying in wars has decreased last 300 years on world scale. People live on the average in a risk-preventing society (city in stead of jungle, wild predators in cages in stead of around us). So more men are produced than needed in this new era. And that will not change.
Time to allow polygamy for women; having two men as a possibility for them? Or shall we just start some more wars?
what can we do as individuals? The chemical reason can be changed by using birth control devises that are in the uterus; they need to use thousands of times less hormone. The historical reason could be changed by making the world more heavy, life-taking for men, (objection!). The social reason obviously needs attention world-wide. In western worlds i think men should emancipate equally to women (not being a new-age whimp scared by femininity/feminism), they can be just as manly as they feel like, and from that natural state (a directional, visionary, loving, peacefull, strong man) feel the equal value that women heve, or that female power has. This complementary view on gender should prevent the social imbalance.

It may be that there is a great deal of work to be accomplished right now ... and that means more men ..... and women are not as needed because they are responsible for home and family.... so they keep the home fires burning and the men go off to do Vishnu's work!!!!

only solution is bringing up girl child and if born dont kill instead give them to the societies where they bring up girl child
