If I wanted to see who hosts yahoo.com or some other smaller site can I check this online?

Depends on what YOU mean by "hosts"...

+ The 'whois" only tells you the REGISTRAR that has the domain INFO... It does NOT tell you the owner of the machine where the domain is actually HOSTED!

+ You would have to get the IP address of where the domain is active, and trace that back to its owner to get the true HOST! Check on such tools as NSLOOKUP and TRACERT to determine the actual IP realm and owner for the HOSTING info!

Whois.com really IS the best option for what you need to do, but if you want a little MORE info on a website, you could use moonsearch.com
