Its 80 not 80%. The way the question was posed is what percent? So 80% of 50 is 40

It is 80 percent. How? well you first make it as a fraction:
40
50
Then you make 50 equal to 100:
40
50=100
Now you multiply 50 to get to 100. 50x2=100.
Then you do the same thing to the numerator (top number):
(x2) 40=80
(x2) 50=100
Then 40x2 equals 80. Easy huh?

Christy has given you not only the answer but a way to solve similiar problems.
It seems as if you are having problems in math. No one likes to appear foolish but if you don't know something the best way to learn is to ask. Why don't you explain to your teacher that you are having problems and ask for some extra help.
It may be embarrassing but asking for help now will save you a lot of future embarrassment. And learning how to solve problems correctly will give you a strong foundation as you continue on in school and work.
Hope that you get the help you need.
