So THe Departed won best director and best pic...agree/disagree?

I havent seen the other movies but i loved the departed and i think Scorsese deserved to win...

and if you disagree why?

I think best picture can be justified. Any movie could have won that one as all the films nominated were quite good, except for Babel(In my opinion I thought Babel sucked). However, I think Martin Scorsese only won best Directing because of what someone above me said about being seen as "long overdue" for an Oscar. The problem is he won for a movie that isnt nearly as good as at least 3 of the other movies he was nominated for(Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and Goodfells spring to mind). He won this award on one of his weakest nominated films. Not to mention it was the remake of an Asian film, to which he even thanked Andrew Lau for the origional film and Asain cinema in general during his speech!

I think his legacy would have been better had he not won the award at all. I mean, the list of great directors without an Oscar is much more prestigious. That list includes Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Oliver Stone, Orson Welles, Fritz Lang and Geore Lucas. That is some exclusive company of great big time directors to never win. Now he gets an award just like many other directors, some of which have the title of "academy award winner" but never lived up to after their win. He would have been much better off joinging the list of greats who never won an award then joining a list that includes many directors who were "one and done" success wise.

If this would have been for a better movie maybe it would be easier to swallow, but I think he only got it because he hadnt before. To me it just seems it was setup to get him his award.

However, if Martin Scorsese's win was because of his futility in the past, then the Academy needs to find a way to get Kevin O'Connell an Oscar! He was nominated for his 19th different award as a sound engineer(for Apocalypto) and lost again! 19 nominations and no wins? Come on and reward this guy some way, some how! If you can rig it for Scorsese then do it for O'Connell!

I totally agree. When they were announcing the nominees for best director and were about to say the winner, I closed my eyes, covered my ears, and prayed for them not to say Clint Eastwood again...and finally, after so many great and legendary movies, the creator of Taxi Driver, the las tentation of Christ, the aviator, the departed WON for best director!!!! I felt so happy!!!
I also liked The departed won for best picture, it was a great movie (greater than the others at least), and it was a double victory for Marty, he deserved it!!!

I definitely thinkg it was about time Martin Scorsese won. I would have liked Little Miss Sunshine to win even though I didnt expect it to.

Of the Nominees I only saw the Departed and thought it was a great film. Great acting and directing.

I agree that Martin Scorcese wa slong overdue..however they owed him that Oscar a long time ago..I had teh sam eopinion about Denzel Washington...he got his oscar for the wrong movie..

No way in hell i agree!! It should of only won best director. I am ALL for babel. It was a great movie i probaly just think that because i love the movie Crash.

it was a remake of a Hong Kong film, it had almost no differences from the first film, how is that talent to copy something?

I would have rather seen Little Miss Sunshine win it, at least it was original
