I am in the market for a new computer. Doesn't have to be special, just for home use, but it must have lots of memory for songs and pictures! Any suggestions on the best brands for the best price??

Yes. The hardware is not as important as the software, but you do need a good size hardrive if you plan on saving your pictures or songs, not necessarily a bunch of memory. One gig of memory would likely be sufficient but you may consider either a large internal hard drive, such as 300 GB, or get an average size internal hard drive, plus a good size external hard drive. The reason for the external hard drive is that they make great backups. You see, your computer hard drive can fail, then you have lost all your pictures or songs, unless you have a backup.
Most any brand will do, but I would stay away from Dell because they will stiff you on shipping, and because they did not give customers a fair shake on some laptop problems/battery problems.
Software, however, I would get kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org for free, and then you wont have to worry about virus problems with Microsoft. They will want to sell you Microsoft and then claim the antivirus software will protect you. It wont. There are 114,000 viruses that infect Microsoft, and even good antivirus will only protect about 99% of those, meaning you can still get infected with over 1000 viruses, and more every day with Microsoft products. Microsoft is big bucks, Kubuntu is free.

go for any P4....these days they all come with minimum 40GB memory...my laptop has 40 GB and i have approx 1500 songa in that and still have 40% free space. System shouldn't cost you more than $300 you can even buy a laptop of that config for $500

Mac computers are incredible when it comes to media, whether it be songs, photos, videos or any other. They have awesome life spans too because they are not effected by most viruses and spyware. A little more expensive but weeeeellll worth it.

I think you mean hard drive space not memory. Although lots of memory (a.k.a. RAM) is good....at least 512 MB if not 1 GB.
