I am a painter. I painted Heracles and other Greek heroes and gods when I was younger, but I had no interest in Biblical myths. If someone hired me to paint Gabriel, I'd research the matter. I might look at Renaissance paintings, especially by Raphael or Da Vinci to see how they painted Gabriel.

About all the help I have is that Gabriel is traditionally depicted as a male. He's a messenger, communicating with the prophets of the old testament and is believed to be the angel who told Mary she was carrying the son of God. The Name Gabriel is from the Hebrew name גַבְרִיאֵל (Gavri'el) which meant "strong man of God". Gabriel is one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition. He appears in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, where he serves as the announcer of the births of John to Zechariah and Jesus to Mary. According to Islamic tradition he was the angel who dictated the Qur'an to Muhammad.
Here are some of the Bible verses referring to Gabriel, they might help you determine how to paint him.
Daniel 8:16 - And I heard a man's voice from the Ulai calling, "Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision."
Daniel 9:21 - while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.
Luke 1:11-19 - Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. 14He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.[a] 16Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. 17And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
18Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."
19The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.
Luke 1:26-29 - In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be

It would look horrible, mainly because I can't paint.
What color, shape, gender...well the only things we know is that he is definitely refered to as "he" because he appears as a man, that he can fly.
This is probably Gabriel:
Daniel 10:5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
He can stand in the presence of the Lord and fight the armies of darkness. Personally I would not paint him because it just does not seem right.

If I remember suitable, one finger is Apostolic progression, and the different is the divine suitable of the Pope. I in all hazard have been given it incorrect someplace, however the element is that that's Roman Catholic doctrine portrayed contained in the paintings therein.

when I was younger and dreamed of the archangels, Gabriel always looked the same.
Short blond hair, wire-rim glasses, wearing a light gray suit.

Angels don't have sexual equipment, according to most sources, although they have a definite male or female look.
To me Gabriel would be dark and beautiful, with fire blazing around him. I think of him more as bringing judgement, than mercy.

I am not a painter, so I must rely upon words. That being the case, I must choose words carefully so as to create as accurate a picture as possible. This has led me to be rather fussy about language, and so I point out that in your question, it would have been better to write, "what would it look like," than "how would it look like."

I would depict Gabriel as an androgenous being......using a lot of pearl white, reflection, and soft color.

none of it would matter: u would be painting a non-physical being, and in doing so would give him/her physical characteristics. u could try 2 represent his/her attributes, but it would only be a diagram of the painter's perception of him/her
