Brontophobia is the fear of thunder and lightning. I'm not a psychologist, or scientist AT ALL, so I am just speaking from experience. Sometimes researching everything you can about what causes your phobia will help you to understand it, and with understanding the fear may leave. Also exposing yourself to it and facing it head on can eleviate it, so maybe instead of hiding, go outside and see what the lightning looks like in the sky. Don't do anything though that is going to put you under more stress than the situation already causes.

Your fear of thunderstorms may stem from something else bad happening to you at the time of a thunderstorm at some earlier part of your life. You may be subconsciously associating the fear related with what may have happened (it could be anything) with the thunder and lightning. the best way to cure a phobia is to just expose yourself to it and reassure yourself (or get assurance from another) during the storm that you are fine and there is nothing to worry about.
Hope that helped! and good luck. Phobias are difficult but as long as they don't seriously interfere with your life they are also very normal and sometimes healthy.
Seems as if you got your answer or Brontophobia. But just for fun, this is a neat page with all kinds of phobias (some of them are REALLY crazy) phobialist.com

it's called "Just Plain Sillyitiis." My mother's old geezer neighbor had that, and just let it get worse, and would come over and sit in the house and cower and sniffle until the storms were over. She smelled like bad cheese. You don't want to end up like that, so face this fear head-on. Only way to get over a phobia. Treat it like an enemy to be conquered. The only other choice is to accept it as a beast that can and will oppress you the rest of your life.
If you don't do the former, it'll only get worse. Think about what exactly it is you are afraid of? It's all in your head, so your head can choose to push it out. Just takes some guts.
There are plenty of real things to be scared off. Don't waste your reserves on stuff that's so unlikely to hurt you that the statistical measures wouldn't make a bump in a graph.

It may be brontophobia. It goes into a category referred to as either "weather phobia" or "noise phobia."
The cure for any phobia is to slowly, step by step, experience thunderstorms with a coach or counselor to analyze what is going on rationally.
