Bacardi,

You want to know what is most accepted, and not what is most secure, correct?

Cash will always be King here in the States.

It seems that people have gotten lazy and mostly use credit cards or credit card-backed-debit cards. (Example, I have a US Bank debit card-- meaning I'm not borrowing funds, these are dollars I have put into an account-- with a Visa logo on it so that more stores accept it). If you are visiting the US, dollar exchange rates can cause you to lose money, and most stores do accept credit cards.

Virtually any store will accept either cash or credit/debit cards. Most will NOT accept checks (including travelers' checks).

Carry tons and tons of cash with you............robbers prefer that to plastic.

Honestly, have a good credit card (Visa), travelers checks (or cheques), and some cash.

Hotels & rental car companies prefer credit cards, and taxi cabs prefer cash.

If you run short on cash, the hotel should be able to cash a travelers check for you.
