There are exchange programs you can apply to join such as Lions Clubs International Youth Exchange Program (). If successful, you'll be hosted for up to 6 weeks by a host family in Malaysia (such programs are also available in many countries) and you only need to pay for the return airfare from your home country. There are also cultural exchanges between sister cities (e.g. Georgetown and Adelaide, Ipoh and Fukuoka etc.). Finally, if you are visiting Malaysia on a visitor's visa, then you can also have long-term stays at youth hostels and YMCA (which gives you freedom to move around a bit more than staying with one family). If you are really keen to stay with a family, email me your details and maybe I can arrange something!
