My 7 month old son was circumcised last week... please don't ask why I waited...view my other questions. I chagedhim this morning and a small bit of his shaft and part of his scrotal sac seem to be more red than the other areas. I use polysporin 3 times a day and vaseline every other time, always wipe very thouroughly and change his diaper as soon as its soiled. He's still a a very happy baby and if it is an infection, he is showing no outward signs of it, other than the redness. I'm just wondering if that redness is normal? I mean, wouldn't he be upset or in pain or giving me somesign that he's uncoftorable if it was infected? As for those people who will lecture me on the negative aspects of circumcision, don't bother... I've heard your views and the deed has been done. Any negative/unhelpful comments will be ignored! As for anyone else, thanks in advance, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

The doc told me to use vasleine simply to keep it from sticking to his diaper. Ploysporin is only allowed to be used 3 times a day due to the medicinal content.

Typically, an infection signifies the presence of "puss" and/or fever. If your son has neither of those symptms then I would think it's safe to assume that there isn't an "infection" at this point.
The redness is just raw, sensitive skin that is trying to heal itself. Just like in us, if we burn ourselves and it goes through a few layers of skin, underneath is all red and raw.....same for your baby. He's has several layers of skin removed so he's understandibly quite raw.

Since it's only been a week, some redness is still expected. After about a week and a half to two weeks if the redness is still prominant you should put a call in to the doctor. Just keep doing what you're doing and watch for any sign of puss or oozing.

Its normal for it to be slightly red. But if you are worried then take him to his pediatrician. They would have to give him an antibiotic to help get rid of it, if it is an infection. But sounds like its not. Just ease up, and dont use Vaseline. Vaseline has no healing purposes, and can keep any germs locked in there on his circumsicion area. Use the Neosporin type every time.
Best of Luck, and its okay to circumsize in my book. My 3 sons are here!

If he had an infection then he would probably be running a fever. If it's red a swollen then you should probably call the doc. Just keep doing what you are doing and keep a close eye on it. If anyhting changes take him to the doc.

It doesn't sound like this has anything to do with circumcision...its just a normal diaper rash?
