Umm maybe because people are so pessimistic. Do you really think the world sucks so bad? Go out there and change it! The world itself is beautiful, it's the people in it that need shaping-up.

I don't know about the world, but in the US i blame it on both our education system and popular culture. In schools they teach to the lowest common denominator, which leaves the smart kids bored as hell. This means neither group is learning to their best advantage. As to popular culture...we worship Paris Hilton and Brittney and other blonde, bland, totally valueless idols. When is the last time someone was on the news because they added something of value to our world, intellectually or culturally?
