I had some bleeding early on in my pregnancy and ran to the ER. I told them what was happening. First thing - they were really caring and supportive (probably because I was crying uncontrollably). They took a pregnancy test to make sure I was indeed pregnant (apparently a lot of women think they're pregnant and miscarrying when they are actually having their period). Of course I was pregnant. They took a blood draw to check my Rh status (positive, which is good). Then they took me for a pelvic exam to make sure my cervix was still closed. If the cervix had opened at all that was a sign I was miscarrying. After the pelvic exam they took me for a vaginal ultrasound to get a clearer picture of what was going on. All total I was at the ER for about 5 hours and they did everythign they could to make me feel comfortable and cared for.

they give an ultrasound first, then to see if anything is left inside - to prevent infection they check and may have to get the rest of the tissue out... This is in the first trimester, Im not sure about later. GOOD LUCK

In Germany and the UK. They will do blood tests to see what your antinatal levels are and a probe scan and if need be an ultra sound scan.

yes, they will check your HCG levels, then they will most likely send you home to let it run its course and have you follow up with your ob, that is what they did with me anyway.
