I am a woman and am very hot. That sounds funny! Not that kinda hot. LOL! I mean my body is hot. That sounds funny too! I mean... my husband can't snuggle me very long, I make him too warm. Almost every time I shake someones hand they comment on how warm my hands are. My husband has me place my hand on his back where his injury is and just hold it there. It's like a little heating pad. In the summer time when it's really hot out, I can't rest my hands on my legs, it makes me too hot because my hands are so warm (even through jeans) I am always too warm in our house when the rest of my family is cold.

I have always been told I must be very warm blooded. I don't know if people can really be warm blooded or cold blooded though. I'm something. Circulation, blood temperature, I don't know. I do know for sure about cold hands and especially feet is poor circulation, don't know about warm ones though. I'm glad you asked this question so I can come back and see if some smarty pants knows the answer.

P.S. I'm back again (like my answer wasn't long enough)
I don't think anemia makes one cold, as I stated I am very hot and have been anemic most of my adult life. My iron is so low, recently my doctor threatened to put me in the hospital for a transfusion.
Also I know it's not a low blood pressure. My whole life and still today my average blood pressure is 90 over 60 (very low) Still hot

It's good to hear it isn't just me. It drives my husband crazy when we're in the truck and he's burning up and I'm freezing. Sometimes he even has to roll the window down while the heater is on until I get warmed up, and even then my hands are usually still cold. I can tell you that in my life when I am slimmer I have more trouble being cold. He outweighs me by about 100 pounds. A co-worker of mine used to be very heavy, now she's lost over 100 pounds and says she is definitely colder now than when she was heavy. I think that unless there is a thyroid problem, it's probably just because guys tend to be heavier than us, and the bigger the guy, the hotter the furnace. Just a side note...iron is a metal and you can very easily OD on it, so you should never take supplemental iron on your own. You need to have a blood test to see where your levels are at and then have an MD monitor you while you're on it. It can be dangerous.

There was a study in 1998 at the University of Utah, that actually proved the saying: "cold hands warm hearts".

The researchers found that women's hands are ~3 degrees faren. colder than mens' on average. Also they found that women's hearts are apparently warmer (though only by 0.4 deg).

They also found that older women, were colder (both hands and heart) because of hormones and menopause.

The journal article was called "Cold hands, warm heart" and was published in "The Lancet" medical journal, issue 9114, pg 1492.

I'm not sure if there have been more recent studies published.

That is not entirely true. In Japan, it is believed that men have cooler hands than women, hence they are better suited for making sushi and handling raw meat.

The reason why hands can feel colder can be attributed to the difference in metabolism rate, and men tend to have higher metabolism rate. Also, as women tend to be of smaller built, they lose heat more easily to the surroundings and feel colder. They also tend to have less muscles and fat to insulate their body heat.

The skinnier the fingers, the faster they lose or gain heat, so when you hold a woman's hand you tend to lose heat to it quicker than you can gain from it and it feels cooler than your hand comparatively.

If you ask me, ladies have cold hands so that men can hold them. :)

Raynaud's syndrome is a condition where people develop spasms in the blood vessels going to the hands or feet. These spasms are most often precipitated by exposure to cold, but they can also be caused by stressful situations.
This syndrome is found mostly in women. It causes a person to have cold hands.

This is an natural process . this is in both sexes male and female and they do have difference in body temperature.as we do have the X and Y chromosomes male and female- Yin and Yang. There is no particular reason to be hot or cold it is the way the body is built to handle/ control the body temperature from time to time and it is not constant, some times it is hot some times it is cold .So just forget it and lead a normal life.Best of luck

What makes sense to me is the reason women always have cold hands and feet is: Women are designed to bear children-the fetus must be kept warm so blood flow is more concentrated around the torso and its vital organs and feet and hands lose heat because of this.
