I recently received a copy of Dantes great tragedy dated 1892. Right now it is just sitting on a book shelf at home. Is there anything special I need to know/do? I have never owned a book this old and I would like to keep it in good shape.

A dark, cool place.

Regularly dust it, and make sure that silverfish and other nasty little creatures can't get into it, that can be done by having bug poison around(just not on the book itself) or by placing it somewhere air-tight.

Keep it away from light and moisture but dont cover it up in anything. That will cause mold.

Light, moisture will kill a book, i suggest you handle it as little as possible, and keep it ziplocked and in the dark.

Go to kinkos and ask them to re-bind it for you! It's cheap too!
