Your equation:
-9 + 6x = -7x - 61

Add 9 to each side of the equation:
9 + (-9) + 6x = -7x -61 + 9
6x = -7x + (9 - 61) = -7x -52

Add 7x to each side of the equation:
7x + 6x = 7x - 7x -52
13x = -52

Divide each side by 13 to isolate x, and simplify:
(13x)/(13) = (-52)/13
x = -4

Hope that helps, one step at a time ;)

Add 9 to each side
-9 + 6x + 9 = -7x - 61 +9
+6x = -7x - 52

Add 7x to each side
+6x + 7x = -7x - 52 + 7x
13 x = -52

Divide each side by 13
13 x / 13 = -52 /13
x = -4

CHECK back in the first equation
-9 + 6x = -7x - 61
-9 + 6(-4) = -7(-4) - 61
-9 -24 = +28 - 61
-33 = -33

When working with equation, there's one simple rule to remember, i.e what you do to one side (add, subtract, multiply, divide, or whatever you like), just do the same to the other.
To solve the equation like this, one should first isolate x to one side, I'd choose left hand side (LHS).

-9 + 6x = -7x - 61
<=> -9 + 6x + 7x = -7x + 7x - 61 (add 7x to both sides)
<=> -9 + 13x = -61
<=> -9 + 9 + 13x = -61 + 9 (add 9 to both sides)
<=> 13x = -52
<=> (13x) / 13 = (-52) / 13 (divide both sides by 13)
<=> x = -4.

Can you get this? :)

since there are no like terms on the left of equal sign to combine, nor the right side of the equal sign... you'll ned to get the variable to one side of the equal sign...

-9 + 6x = -7x - 61

add 7x to both sides

simplifies to

-9 + 13x = -61

Then look at the side where the variable is and ask yourself, is there a constant? Yes, -9

we need to eliminate the -9 on its own side by adding it to itself and then combine with the likeable on the other side of the equal sign, so add 9 to -61 and you get the equation simplified to

13x = -52

now you need to divide both sides by the coefficient of x, which is 13

x= -52/13

x= 4

first isolate the variable, x, on one side of the equals sign.
we have:
-9+6x+7x= -7x-61+7x
9-9+13x=9-61+0x
13x=-52
Now divide 13 from both sides:
x=-4

-9 + 6x = -7 x - 61
add 9 to both sides...
6x = -7x-52
add 7x to both sides...
13x = -52
divide both sides by 13...
x = -4

-9 + 6x = -7x - 61
6x = -7x - 61 + 9 (Adding 9 to both sides)
6x = -7x - 52
6x + 7x = -52 (Add 7x to both sides)
13x = -52
x = -52/13 (Divide both sides by 13)
x = -4

You have not written the equation correctly. I can't tell which x is a letter, and which is a multiplication sign. If you first clarify that, then you will have no trouble solving the problem.
