we pulled out of Iraq tomorrow? And before your knees dislocate from all the jerking... I'm not saying we should pull out of Iraq tomorrow. I'm just asking someone to finally explain what direct threat Iraq, especially in its current state, poses to the U.S.

Justify our presence.

Iraq was never a threat to our country. If anything by removing Saddam from office we have removed the only person who could keep Iran in check. We never had any business there and George we never be able to give a honest, competent reason for what we did.

Well as a liberal who was NEVER for this war, I am reluctant to just pull our troops out asap. To do so would create a power vaccuum, granted one of our own making, and would leave the civilian population at the mercy of the religious fanatics, militia leaders, Al'Queada fighters, etc. I think we have a moral responsibility to see that the country is put back together and is left in better condition than when we invaded. I would ultimately suggest that to really WIN (ie, establish and maintain security, rebuild civilian infrastructure, and allow the Iraqi people to set up a government of THEIR choosing and not just puppets of the west) we would need at LEAST 2x as many boots on the ground. This way our troops are not playing whack-a-mole with Iraqi security threats -- beating them down in one portion of the country only to have them re-emerge somewhere else. As it stands now though, it is HIGHLY unlikely that this will ever happen because no one in gov. has the GUTS to send that many, and people in the US are weary of the war (and I don't believe they would support ACTUAL sacrafice).

The way things are going now, we are losing and the only common sense answer would be to redeploy our forces since they are not accomplishing anything truly substantial in regards to overall Iraqi security, however, I honestly feel that since we made the horrible mistake of invading the country, we should do everything in our power to protect its people from the consequence of that mistake.

It isn't "Iraq" as a nation. It is the presence of, and activities of Islamic Fascists operating under a multitude of names there. Since they have no official "national association", they need places where they can operate from with impunity. Iraq is potentially one of those places. So is Iran, Afghanistan and many others.

The presence of US military in Iraq is, I believe a stabilizing factor in Iraq. It is difficult to assess how much of a factor toward stabilization we are as we can't asses what would be going on in our absence.

It could turn even more violent when we leave, due to the actions of the government to resist these radicals, or less violent, should the government lay down and let the radicals do what they want. Essentially making themselvs captive again under a totalitarian regime as opposed to a government and constitution freely elected by the people.

Again, the most difficult thing to asses the affects of would be the absence of a thing. I don't want to find out that our absence in Iraq resulted in more freedom of action for the Islamic Fascist to spread their hate and death across the globe, including America.

well, a direct threat is dim, a distant threat is more than probable. we can't just look at the near future here, these things take time.

naturally, the nation would fall apart, we wouldn't be there if they were ready to take over, rome wasn't built in a day. the current government would collapse into a state of brief anarchy until the different muslim sects could organize sides and fight what we would call a civil war.

this would hardly be a civil war but rather a territorial conflict between warlords. this will escalate to the point where outside nations seeking to benefit would alliance themselves with certain sects, until one side wins your looking at about 15 more years of war, because these bastards just don't quit.

no, this ends now.

Uninformed Republicans will say to prevent more terrorism. However, Terrorist training camps have been redeployed in Afghanistan. Iraq was a horrible decision. We defeated a political foe of Iran, destabilized an oil producing nation, and created a civil war. We won a military solution and ignored a political solution, to the regions, and our own, peril.

those international places probable observed those threats as they have been, it extremely is empty. in case you have been somebody who ever seen Bush, or the different flesh presser, as a ethical authority then you could be parachuted over Iraq with the phrases "ethical crusader" tatooed on your brow. How ought to absolutely everyone ever doubt the honesty or integrity of a toddler-kisser? Politicians have an prolonged music checklist of being truthful, selfless, and ethical. Frankly, i discover it no longer undemanding to have self assurance that any flesh presser has ever lied or maybe in touch themselves with making a residing. Winner of Presidential Election = (man or woman who can develop the main money) + (man or woman who could make the main empty grants) + (man or woman who can suited trash, slander, and attack their oppponents) Oh and by how, confirm you get out and vote or as P.Diddy says, you will die in case you dont. (P.Diddy = additionally a ethical authority)

I was never convinced Iraq alone was a threat to us in the first place. If you combined all of the radical "Jihadists" in the Saudi Arabian region - we have a larger group of peolple who believe that us "infedels"do not deserve to live - ok potential problem.

Before there was no threat, now it exist in al Qaeda in Iraq. They have a pretty good hold on al Anbar province. so when we do go, it will probably end up as a training base for terrorist like Afghanistan was.
The military is letting that province go. Focusing on Baghdad instead. Are we sending ALL 150,000 soldiers into Baghdad?

Nothing will happen to the USA. Look at Vietnam. In 1969 I was told if we lost Vietnam we would have Communist walking down my street and killing us off. Well, We lost Vietnam on 30th April 1975 and I'm still waiting for the communist to come into my yard/house and kill me and my family. If Iraq is lost today nothing will happen to me or you. The Iraq war is a waste.
