No one in this world is shieled from earth's problems and world conditions today. Bills still need to be paid by Christians, Jobs still have to get done by Christians, and food needs to be on a Christians table as well.
All people in this world face one problem or another. Be thankful if you don't have to deal with all the problems going on, cause it's a lot of them.
Depression is a chemical imbalance that even children suffer from. Christians are not exempt from this. Seasonal depression affects the majority of the worlds population itself.
Hope this helped! ♥

Have you heard of the question, how can christians be psychologists?
I am a psychology student and I think its about the mind of the person. The brain has levels. When a chemical in the brain decreases and increases the mind either reactivates itself and then there is hormonol imbalance in the brain level. We have the left brain that takes care of the thoughts and messages. The right brain takes care of memories and bad and good experiences and thoughts. The frontal that remembers driving walking swimming and a whole lot of other dimensions.
Christianity makes me become more christian. I love Jesus Christ for all he did for us and most of all for making me know that love and kindness to all, the proper treatment and care can always make a better person for anyone even with a depression or sickness. My brother had depression for 3 years. We are from India and are very christian people always going to church and brought up with moral values and ethics. But we all cry and feel sad. Depression has many types. But if we learn to love the ones we care about and do the right things and never let them down, nothing can wreck our mind or our bodies. It is all only in the mind as they say dear.
Please read more about it on a related site. It can help you immensely.
regards,
Indian girl

I am a Christian and have a lot of faith, however I have a chemical imbalance in my brain that causes depression. It is not a choice. If it were a choice I would be happy go lucky all the time. I also live with chronic pain from a head on car crash that almost killed me. It is so wrong to tell people that if they just have enough faith and pray hard enough that they won't get sick or ever have anything wrong with them. These are things that disillusion new Christians.I just heard Dr. Charles Stanley talk about this on Sunday. He, too said that it is not because a person doesn't have enough faith that things happen in their life or illness comes. God sometimes allows these trials in our lives to make us stronger and closer to Him. Please tell your husband that he should pray on this and really give it further thought. Being a good Christian does not mean that you will never be sick or in pain or have depression. It means that we have the faith to get through these trials.

I'm afraid your husband has been very misinformed about that. A Christian can have depression, the same as anyone else can.. Just because a person has faith in the Lord, that does not in any way mean that they won't have problems in their life.
As a Christian myself, I know that I will struggle from time to time, because this life is not perfect.. but I find peace knowing that no matter what happens, the Lord is always there, guiding me through any storm this life throws my way.

A Christian is human just like anyone else and sometimes their moods can be off because of a chemical or vitamin imbalance or deficiancy. I do agree with your husband however a little on this as to me if you totally trust God for everything in your life and have faith this will cut way down on the possibility of depression and things like that happening in your life BUT i do not feel that it is totally impossible to be perfect when we are all just humans. As Christians we need to seek God's help and guidance daily in life to keep us strong and encouraged in Christ and i life. God gives us a peace which the world looking at us cannot understand. I feel that if you need counseling you need to seek it BUT that it should only be with a Christian counselor or paster and not a secular one.

A Christian can have depression the same way a Christian can have cancer. Depression is a clinical disorder. I know where he is coming from - Jesus is our all in all so how can you be sad - but depression isn't just a feeling of sadness, or of being discontent - true depression is a medical problem.

Easy we all have our days when are down. If we were always up how could the Lord ever carry us or see us through trials and tribulations. There would be no need to call on him. Christians have sad times too that's why we have the Lord to talk to in order to help pull us out with time.

People are only human and depression is not a prejudice thing no matter if a person is a Christian or not. Tell him some pastors are known to councel depressed people in their own congregation.

So then is your husband also saying that a christian cant get a cold? Cancer, the flu, athletes feet? Depression is an illness. If you're human, you're susceptible to it.
I wish being a christian meant we didnt get sick. That'd be super! cough cough..sniff sniff..sneeze.
Tell your husband the next time he feels the urge to pass gas, to just believe he doesnt have to. We're all just human beings.

Everyone gets depressed at some stage.. just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean it is not real. O.o
Denying the need for help won't fix anything either.
