I have a friend who had sharply spoken about a teacher in college. He had "wished" that a bad thing happen to the teacher. Recently, this now 93 year old teacher passed away. I reminded my friend about his comment, and how he "got his wish". I realize that it was a crude joke, but now my friend won't talk to me. Is it me, or is he wrong?

He's wrong, but you're not right in the matter either.

He probably didn't really intend or want for something that bad to happen to the teacher. And since the teacher passed away, he's probably feeling guilty or hurt by what he wished. And by you bringing it back to his attention, most likely made him feel even worse about what he had wished for.

Hope this helped!

Friend was in the wrong for saying out loud that he wished something bad would happen to the teacher. (Some things are better left us thinking them maybe, but not actually saying them out loud). All you did was bring what they said to their attention. Let friend pout.

Assuming you have both grown up a bit since college, you shouldn't have brought up a comment made by immaturity. I'm sure your friend feels bad for her death and for what he said, and I'm sure he didnt need to be reminded. Apologize and hope it's accepted. Keep the past where it belongs, we all make mistakes.

Lesson for you, Be careful what you wish for! I think it may have been wrong for you to say that to your friend because I don't believe he or she meant it. Just apologize and you'll feel better.

I think your friend was wrong, not you. It's wrong to wish "bad things" on another person. Your friend needs to grow up, and learn how to deal with his feelings appropriately.
