I was just driving minding my own buisness on the highway and the car just died, i had to coast to an empty parking lot and push it the rest of the way. It does turn over when i try to start it. But it will not start at all. To me it sounds like its not getting any gas.But hey thats just me. Theres is gas in it i filled the tank up right before and it has electricity so i know the battery is good. What could this be?? Does this happen when the fuel pump goes out? Any suggestions please, thanks in advance.

will it just die like that all of a sudden if its the fuel pump? Are they known to do that. This is a 2001 saturn.

Is this a new vehicle? If so, it must be under warranty after only 5 days, so call the dealer and make arrangements to get it towed to them and fixed under warranty.

If not, yes, that would be a symptom of the fuel pump going out and not delivering fuel. It would also be a symptom of failure in the ignition, and I can't see it from here. *smile*

Turn the key and listen towards the fuel cap area. Do you hear the "Whir!" of the fuel pump running? If not, that is the problem.

But either way, it's time to get the tow truck to take it to your mechanic before it is declared abandoned and towed anyway.

What year is it? Fuel pumps on 98-00(?) forget the exact cut off date, are known for failure. Can you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key to the accessory position? If you can't hear it prime, you've got a bad fuel pump.

Yes, the car may suddenly give out if the fuel pump goes, it just depends on when the fuel pump decides to call it quits. Get it to a mechanic and have them diagnose it.

S-Series saturns also do not have two "balance shafts" or a timing belt. They have one crankshaft counterbalanced per norm and have pretty beefy motor mounts to dampen any further vibration. The LLO motors have two camshafts, yes, and these motors use a timing chain. If the timing chain snapped, you would definitely know.

It sounds like the fuel pump, but there is multiple things it could be. check your fuse for the fuel pump. it could be the computer, or some other electronic part, it's really hard to narrow it down when that happens, sorry i couldn't give you anymore than that.

I believe this car to have 2 balance shafts just like a motorcycle would have. If the balance shaft belt broke it can send a chunk of the belt around with the timing belt and can cause the timing to jump. When this happened to me in my Eclipse it smashed all the valves down one side of the DOHC. This happened to me driving down the highway and had the car towed home. We didn't find out this was what was wrong until we pulled the motor and started tearing it apart.

Fuel pump? Ignition system? Sounds like another GM wiring issue to me.

Are you sure theres gas in it? otherwise i'd agree with fuel filter, if its brand new then that wouldnt be a problem, but if its older, a clogged fuel filter ($50) is probably the problem
