My physics teacher was talking about it in class and he mentioned that it was a great advance in Ancient Greek astronomical study. Anyone know what this is?

Antikythera Mechanism, is a computerlike device with dials, gear wheels and inscribed plates made by some Greeks abt 2,000-year-old,who wanted to predict the motion of the sun, moon, and stars.

what's fascinating is not so much that the device existed 2,000 years ago but that the technology behind it ceased to exist for the next 1,000 years until the first mechanical astrolabes and clocks worked their way out of the Arab world and into the West.

It is a anomaly. Finding that is like finding a hand held calculator in a million year old coal vein. It should not exist but it does.
