Or is it adviseable to go without foundation and use a sunblock?
I would like to hear what you ladies out there do, if you normally like to wear foundation but have an occasion when you cannot avoid being out in the sun.
Are there any foundations available with total sunblock?
Thanks!!

I think there're many factors in play here.

To answer your questions in proper order - :P

Is a foundation with SPF 15 enough to protect facial skin from the sun?
- A foundation with SPF 15 should be sufficient. SPF is a measure of how many minutes and hours the said sunblock is going to protect you from the sun, and not how 'strong' it is. If you spend long hours in the sun thus, you should invest in a foundation with a higher SPF number.

Or is it adviseable to go without foundation and use a sunblock?
- Well if you've got good skin and are not worried about clogged pores and zits, it's always best to apply a thin layer of sunblock first, wait 5 minutes for absorption, and then put on your foundation. Otherwise, skip the sunblock and simply trust that good foundation with SPF protection in it.

Are there any foundations available with total sunblock?
- Happily, most major cosmetic brands today come with sun protection. Some of the brands I've tried and like are Clinique and L'oreal. You can have your skin analyzed at the counter, and have the saleslady recommend you the right type of foundation for your skin and needs. :)

Hi,
Check if it's got titanium dioxide or zinc oxide in it, they are supposed to be the best types of sunscreen (mineral instead of chemical filters). Then it depends on your skin type... as far as I'm aware SPF15 is the minimum for all skin types. Personally I have quite fair skin and usually use SPF50+ cream - I don't use foundation normally, only on nights out, I think it's better for the skin and I think proper sunscreen is more effective than foundation. I don't think you get any foundation with SPF higher than 15 or 20... do you put a moisturiser with sunscreen under foundation? That would protect too.
I hope this helps :)

there are a lot of foundations with spf protection. yes, they all protect u enough from the sun. however, it would not hurt to apply a daily sunscreen on the face anyways

unless you wear a thick layer all over your entire face and neck (i hope not, its not a good look) its not nearly enough coverage. use a day cream with spf or an oil free sun block before putting on your make up. when its really hot try to wear little or no foundation as it blocks youre pores.

your meant to use a factor 15 throughout the year, but using a higher one in the summer you can also mix foundations with sun screen also

i always wear foundation without an SPF and no matter how long i'm sunbathing i never get a tan on my face, but last year when i went to turkey i never wore any and got a tan, (red nose, forehead, lips and cheeks lol), so to me its never really made a difference.

anything 15 or above is good for your face. I never go without it on my face of body during the summer....I had a spot of cancer removed from my face several years ago...and I have to continually get what I call inspections of my body from the dermatologist every 18 months now.
