wel when i right click my network there is to connections the ethernet says 100mbps and the other i quess the isp box runs at 400mbps and ntl said they have upgraded me to 2mb internet?

The only thing that matters here is the speed at which your ISP is providing you. You obviously pay them for a specific speed tier, the best way to verify you are getting what you are paying for is to use a speed test site.

I don't know where you are located so I can't recommend a good one, you want to use one geographically close to you.

If you want to know what your speed your internet SHOULD be running at check with your ISP. If you want to know what speed it IS running at then download a good size program, such as openoffice.org and see how long it takes, because a small program download wont give you an accurate reading.

2mb should run at 180 bytes per second on average download, on a good day you should get 200+. but this can change depending on the day

Go on pcpitshop and check your download and upload speed but youll have to do it several times to have a clear match.

you may have 2.5meg download but that is not to say you will get that speed... it depends on many factors.. how many people are on the web, and the sites you visit

try this site speedtest.net, i use this site to measure my download and upload speed....

try to ask your ISP on your DL/UL rate, this rate depends on how far the sites server from you.
