We are thinking about moving to a townhouse, but we've never had a patio on the first floor. The new place appears to have a certain kind of screen that should block out a lot of the dirt that would enter from the outside into the screen,, but i am thinking that i would remove it because you can't see through it and i like a regular see through screen. Dirt is sure to get in but i would just sweep, but is it really that bad of a problem?

I am sure it depends on what is outside, green lawns or a dirt road or a sandy area . Then the windiness of your area should
be taken into consideration.

The type of screening that you described that is there now is probably for privacy, because it is the first floor. It probably deters a clear view into your patio and rooms.

The dirt should not be a big problem, but if you remove the screen, bugs will be a huge problem.
