It is estimated live on Earth is about 3 billion years in existence. The conditions then were nothing as they are now. Therefore it would be difficult to imagine something like a totally new class of plants emerging from the mud of Borneo.

Whenever they do find a new species the DNA is checked. It usually matches or comes close to species already living or passed.

Importantly, there is no large solutions of proteins, amino acids, nucleic acids, just existing out in nature right now. Currently living organisms would use them prior to being able to be used to start new life.
