Lots of big names, so of course good acting. But I found it confusing and a horrible, depressing ending that made me glad I only rented it. It won best film at Oscars. Do you agree with that? Or do you think Hollywood chose it to push all season and give awards to because of the big names???

I saw it at the movies; it was ok, but about an hour too long. I don't think it would have won the oscar if Scorcese hadn't directed it.

In my opinion, yes, it deserved it.
Just think about it...
Little miss Sunshine was a kind of funny-depressing movie, it was kind of original too, but it definetely didnt deserve that oscar, it was just one of those little movies (in every sense)..

Babel, well, it was good, but coming from a hispanic director who knows how hard life can be for people with a poor background at the end of the movie he just falls into the same hole of the typical Hollywood movies: Americans are the good people: they suffer, they cry a little, so their ending is good; Mexicans (latinos in general) and Arabians are the bad people: that's not what he expressed in the movie but his ending showed that; and the japanese, well they dont count, they were born riched and advanced, they end up the same.

The Queen, I must confess I didnt see it, therefore I'll shut my mouth with this one.

Letters from Iwo Jima, another one I didnt see, but I can imagine Eastwood's message: "it's great to die with honor", isnt it?? If it isnt then I'll shut my mouth too..

In conclusion, The departed was great, too much use or the F word, but it was great!!
And teh fact that everyone died at teh end was even greater!!!
Not everyday you find a movie like that... lol

What I hated about the oscars is that they nominated Mark Whalberg (I still dont understand why, maybe because he wass teh only survivor lol), and they completely forgot about Matt Damon!!!! who in my opinion did the best performance in teh movie!!!!

I think it was a great movie. I watched it for the first time on Saturday. Leo does a great job as does Mark Whalberg. Matt Damon did such a good job of being a jerk that I really really hated him, even more than I did in the Talented Mr. Ripley.

Good directing and acting by the cast. I didn't catch any of the other nominees and don't really plan it on it either, unless they come on Starz.

I dont agree... I didnt really like the movie, it was ok, but it wasnt worth an oscar :S! I was really shocked when i heard that it won best film. My family decided to go to a movie, and I was like oh God, does it get any worse.. We went to the departed. Yes, it got worse...

It won because the cast were members of AMPAS.

Nicholson, DiCaprio, Baldwin, Damon, and so on and so it win. Though this is the only best pic nominee films i've just saw, at first i didn't like it, but damn, can't get out of my head, especially Farmiga, DiCaprio and Wahlberg and almost Damon. I just like the Directing but I realize later it was a good film.

I loved the Departed. It was such great acting and directing. And it was one of those movies that had you guessing. Great writing! I think in the company it was in, it deserved the win!

But then again, I am also one of the few who thought Little Miss Sunshine and Babel were the most depressing movies ever!

: )

The Departed was a great movie. If your the type who can't take violence don't watch it. It's a fun movie with great acting. I bought the dvd the day it came out. If your looking for something happy and chipper don't watch this one. If you want to see a good flick with drama check out "The Departed" it's worth it.
