Brindisi
(Venice, no matter how you spell it, is in Northeast Italy, not Southeast Italy).

Brindisi is ancient city. It was the terminal point of the Appian Way in Roman times and it is still the place where, if you are traveling on a Eurail Pass, you get off the train and on the boat to go to Greece. There is a fountain there called the "Tancredi Fountain". "Tancredi" refers to Tancred, one of the leaders of the Crusades.
