Advantages:
you can go when you want
you don't have to wait for a bus/train
you can plan your route
it is quick
it is comfortable
you can listen to your favourite music
Disadvantages
petrol is really expensive
it pollutes the atmosphere
it kills small animals (unless you are Jeremy clarkson & then it kills cows)

Well, if it's an Aston Martin DB9, you can get to Monte Carlo slightly faster than you would by train. And you don't have to sit next to a total stranger.
Disadvantage: You can't drink if you're driving.

plus = car get to see scenery and it's cheap
minus - wear and tear on car and slow

Pros - You have your own timetable, comfort, music, if you smoke you can, pull over when you feel like it.
Cons - parking.
